Things to Do in Chester

Some ideas of things to do in Chester:

  • Walk the walls – it takes about 40-45 minutes to do a circuit of the city centre along the famous walls – see lovely views of the canal and the river which runs through the city and the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre
  • Take a  30 minute Boat Trip on the River Dee
  • Explore the Shops along the famous and unique ‘Rows’ 
  • Talk an open top Bus Tour – see the sights in comfort and find out more of Chester’s history 
  • Walk through the Roman gardens down to the river – full of Roman ruins
  • Stroll down Frodsham Street  and explore all the charity shops  
  • Hear beautiful music by listening to Chester Cathedral choir, who sing every day except Wednesday – experience Evensong in the historic quire where monks worshiped in the Middle Ages (5.30 pm on Thursday and Fridays, 4.15 pm on Saturdays and 3.30 pm on Sundays)
  • Take a free guided tour of the Cathedral (founded in 1092) or wander round on your own and find the famous fourteenth century carved elephant amongst other treasures
  • Find out more about Chester in Roman times by taking a  90 minute walking tour with a Roman soldier – available every day at noon  and 3 pm. Starting from the tourist information centre by the town hall
  • Visit the Chester Zoo which is approximately a 15 minute drive from the hotel
